Effects of Acoustic Perception on Outdoor Thermal Comfort in Campus Open Spaces in China’s Cold Region

To explore the effects of acoustic perception on outdoor thermal comfort, in five typical open spaces a campus China’s cold region with common soundscapes was evaluated by using meteorological measures, sound level devices, and questionnaire survey. Eight adjectives were used to evaluate an individual’s perception, physiological equivalent temperature (PET) selected as index. The correlations between comfort these further analyzed. We demonstrated that: (1) Acoustic sensation varied significantly among types (STPs). Respondents reported pleasant perceptions broadcasting music, running water birdsong, wind (a gentle breeze) insects. (2) Although there no significant difference vote (TSV), we found large differences (TCV) STPs. (3) respondents’ neutral PET (NPET) In autumn, ranked order NPET machines > birdsong crowds music winter, insects birdsong. (4) When people perceived “acoustic comfort”, their TSV improved, vice versa.
